Nancy Schafer is a film producer and consultant. Her most recent film Sing Sing premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2023, was acquired by A24, and was nominated for three Academy Awards (Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Song). Her previous film Jockey, premiered in Dramatic Competition at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and is distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. Her prior films include the documentary Running with Beto, which is distributed by HBO. She has produced many other films, including Transpecos, The Battered Bastards of Baseball, and 7 Chinese Brothers. When she was 22, Nancy began the SXSW Film Festival and grew it for 9 years. After that, tired of living in Texas, she moved back to the East Coast and was on the original team that pulled off the Tribeca Film Festival in the wake of 9/11. She ran that festival for 11 years as Executive Director and was also Executive Vice President of Tribeca Film, where she started a film distribution label and a film festival in Doha, Qatar.
I believe people should have access to healthy food and that one of the best ways to create open and engaged communities is through a good meal. As a volunteer at Open Table MDI I saw that this simple idea of creating good meals and inviting people in to share them resonates powerfully throughout the MDI community. I’m glad to help the organization grow and provide more and more good meals to people in need.
