Donna lives in downtown Bar Harbor with her husband, Sam, after having raised their two children in Arlington, Virginia. They discovered the beauty of Bar Harbor and Acadia in 1987, and their dream of retiring to Maine became a reality when they bought their home here in 2002.

Donna was the owner and Executive Director of Children’s Speech & Language Services, Inc. in Virginia for 37 years, before retiring and moving to MDI full-time in 2017. She enjoys being out in nature as much as possible, hiking, kayaking and working in the garden. In addition to Open Table MDI, she is an active volunteer with Acadia Senior College and the Friends of Acadia Membership Table.

I was drawn to Open Table MDI because of the tremendous sense of community that I felt the first time i joined the prep team chopping vegetables. A slow chopper indeed, I found my niche greeting and serving meals each Tuesday night. I look forward to seeing the regulars. I worry when someone familiar isn’t at our Tuesday supper for a couple of weeks. With the newcomers, I love spreading the warmth and the feeling of community that this organization gives me. People quickly begin to feel like family. Open Table MDI truly is special..
